• Monitoring of the response of wet heathlands in unfavorable conservation status to clearing actions

    Proyecto - 29/09/2022

In the first conservation actions, carried out in 2018, a three-year field monitoring was proposed through permanent plots to assess the response of the habitats to conservation actions that directly affect the vegetation, such as clearing, under different conditions (with grazing, no grazing).

In the first weeks of July we completed the last samplings of the three-year series. In these samplings, species composition, cover, height and biomass of heather, gorse and herbaceous plants are determined. The results will allow us, for example, to specify the time that these heath communities require to recover the structure that is considered optimal.

Sampling is tough work! with highly variable weather conditions, and kilos and kilos of shrub biomass have to be cut and classified. But it is carried out with joy with the great team of the UDC and USC assisted by commoners.
