• Life In Common Land technicians follow up on demonstration actions for the conservation of habitats

    The project - 30/09/2020

Throughout this summer, UDC technicians from the Life in Common Land team carried out several follow-ups of the conservation demonstration actions that were completed last year.

These actions, in the mountains of Vilacampa, Santo Tomé de Recaré and Frexulfe, consisted of clearing the excessive co-opening of gorse in areas of wet heath. This action, combined with the phytophagous action of the wild horses of the Sierra del Xistral, favours the improvement of the conservation status of these priority habitats.

Sampling was done in monitoring plots that allow studying the evolution of the structure and composition of the vegetation after clearing. In this way, it is possible to know how the habitats are responding to the different conservation actions implemented by the Life In Common Land project in this natural area of the province of Lugo.

The follow-up work was carried out with the collaboration of the community members, volunteers and also the students of the Inter-University Master's Degree in Terrestrial Biodiversity of the UDC who carried out their practices in this project.
