LIFE in Common Land project held its final Congress on the 8th and 9th of November in Lugo and now it is presenting the Book of Abstracts and Conclusions of the congress.

During the LIFE in Common Land Congress, the results of the project were presented and experts from all over Europe and members of the European Commission were present to share experiences on topics such as traditional livestock systems and habitat conservation, heathland and bogs restoration, innovative conservation mechanisms and experiences of habitat conservation in common land areas in the Natura 2000 Network. In addition, attendees were able to enjoy an trip to the Serra do Xistral, where fogg did not permit see the habitat restoration actions but allowed us to visit the blanket bogs of the Sierra.

The debate generated among experts and attendees and the conclusions of this congress will undoubtedly be of great use to other projects for the management and conservation of similar habitats in communal areas.

We would like to sincerely thank the speakers, attendees, and especially the commoners who have participated in this Congress, exposing their ideas and problems, so that together we can reach a Xistral in which sustainable livestock, wild horses and habitat conservation walk together for a better future for the unique ecosystems of this mountain area and for the commoners who maintain them with their activity and effort.
